Peter von zur Muehlen

Peter von zur Muehlen is a Saint Louis native who has been in love with art since early childhood. Though working full time in areas not directly related to art, he devotes much of his free time to the creative process producing works in a wide variety of styles and mediums. Watercolors, acrylic paints, and crayons, as well as collages and computer-generated works are just some of the mediums he employs. His subject matter ranges from representational reality to the purely abstract; and between these extremes is a large body of works that are fauvist, dream-like landscapes populated with strange creatures and colorful trees. The spectrum of his abstract works ranges from creations that are very bright, colorful, and energetic to others that are grounded in a somber realm of earth tones and decay.

In addition to selling pieces that he has created, von zur Muehlen also accepts commissions from time to time for specific projects. A 15’ x 20’ painting for use as a backdrop in a children’s musical performance, murals painted in private homes, a copy of a Frida Kahlo painting, and paintings on specific themes to be given as gifts have been done on a commission basis.
Several exhibitions in the Saint Louis area have displayed von zur Muehlen’s works including the Mid-Town Arts Center in 1999 and the D-Zine Hair and Art Gallery in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
